The Mechanical Sciences Division of the Army Research Office (ARO) in Research Triangle Park, NC, is actively looking to fill a positon of Solid Mechanics Engineer/Program Manager to lead an innovative, high pay-off, basic research program in the area of solid mechanics. The ideal candidate would have a Ph. D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering with educational training and/or experience in conducting basic research in the areas primarily related to solid mechanics. Program management experience in these areas is desired but not essential. As the position requires general basic knowledge/experience in the area of solid mechanics, candidates with educational training/experience in any solid mechanics or mechanics of materials sub-discipline will be considered as long as the training/experience is related. The duties involve identification of new scientific opportunities (focus areas) for basic research investments in the area of solid mechanics, formulation of research programs based on these focus areas, management of the programs primarily through grants/contracts to the extramural research community (e. g. Universities) and transition of that knowledge to the Army.

At the end of the job interview… When the interview comes to an end, ensure you address once again the fact that you're interested in the position. Don't assume they already know because they might not. Be confident and end the interview with an impressive statement/question "I'm very excited about this opportunity, what's our next step? ", this puts the ball in their court, and it's over to them to start making decisions. Remember… If you prepare for a job interview in plenty of time, making notes for the questions above and practice what you're going to say, when you present your self in the interview you have great chances of succeeding.
